Ad domain checker
How the check works
ClearAd matches a name the way the app does: a lookup is blocked if the name, or any parent domain of it, is on the list. So x.y.doubleclick.net is blocked if doubleclick.net is listed. See how DNS ad blocking works for the full picture.
Why a domain might not be blocked
- It serves content and ads from one name, which a filter cannot separate safely.
- It is new or rare, and not on the list yet.
- It is on our “never block” list, such as payment and banking services.
Frequently asked questions
What does the ad domain checker do?
It checks a domain against ClearAd’s built-in block list of 5,677 ad and tracker domains, using the same parent-domain matching the app uses.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. The list is downloaded to your browser and the check runs locally.
Why is a domain not on the list but still showing ads?
It may serve both content and ads, which a name-based filter cannot separate, or it may be a newer ad server we have not listed yet.
List sources and licences
The list combines the StevenBlack hosts project (MIT licence), the AdAway default blocklist (CC BY 3.0) and ClearAd’s own entries. We only use sources whose licences allow commercial use.
